Can I Change course or University in Australia?

  There are a number of things to consider and check prior to you making the decision to change either your course of the program or your college.

You must check your student visa conditions and make sure you follow the proper procedures to retain your visa. Remember, if you change your college or course at any time you must contact the Department of Home Affairs and offer an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate from your latest institution.

How to Change Course?

If you are going to change course at the same institution, you are presently studying and at the same level of qualification, you do not need to apply for a new student visa if not your current visa is about to terminate or end.

Changing your level of qualification

If you want to change your level of qualification, for example from a Diploma to a bachelor’s degree, you may need to apply for a new student visa because your visa subclass may change. Visit the Department of Home Affairs for more information.

Changing your institution

If you are imagining moving to a distinct institution, talk with your current institution for information on doing this. In most situations, the new institution will be regulated from registering you if you have not completed at least six months of the main course of study (at your existing institution) for which your visa was approved.

If you want to change colleges before completing the first six months of your primary course of study, you must contact your current college/university for permission. You will require a letter of offer from the new institution in order to apply for a letter of release from your existing institution.
